Community Greyhawk – DB1 – The Burneal and the North

Today we look at DB1 – The Burneal and the North by Derek Long. This is a 76 page pdf with plenty of interior art (color and b&w, most of which looks to be public domain), with bookmarks (yay!), and in a nice 5E-style layout. The book is a sourcebook for the Burneal Forest and the lands around, which are presented as a sort of Pleistocene region, with tribesmen, quaggoths, and many other beasts and monsters.

This is definitely a full-blown gazetteer, with sections on geography, the various Flan human tribes, religion, calendar, economics, places and persons of interest, factions, etc. There are adventure ideas, and 25 pages of new rules (for 5E, of course); rules for dealing with cold, new backgrounds, feats, equipment, magic items, sub-classes, and monsters. There are tables for encounters and weather, and several maps.

On the whole, this is a fantastic book covering a little-used section of the Flanaess. It costs $9.99, but you get a lot of content, all of which is immediately useable. Even if you don’t play 5E, there’s plenty here that isn’t rules-specific. Definitely worth getting this one.
