Community Greyhawk – The Night of Veils

Today we look at The Night of Veils by a familiar face, Christopher Harwell. Billed as “an adventure for 3rd – 4th level fools” (heh), It’s a 44 page pdf, with no bookmarks, a full color interior using the standard 5E format, color art (there’s no artist credit in the book, so I am assuming it’s AI generated), and maps by Dyson Logos. The adventure is billed as Halloween-themed, and it is indeed filled with lots of appropriate atmosphere.

The adventure kicks off at an inn at the edge of the Gnarley Forest, the Wayside Inn, and a surrounding small thorp called Lortmil Hollow. Interestingly, the inn itself was detailed in a separate, PWYW book that was not in any particular setting, but seems to have found a home in Greyhawk. The adventure centers around the Night of Veils Festival, a sort of spooky local harvest festival, which has taken on new significance as some malevolent force has made the locals’ lives miserable. As the days pass and the festival draws nigh, the evil force seems to be getting stronger. The PCs, of course, are there to put a stop to it.

All in all, this is a spiffy adventure, one oozing atmosphere (literally in some cases), and which looks to be not only a great use of the inn, but a fun adventure in and of itself. It’s not got a ton of Greyhawk lore, but it’s worth getting just on its own merits. And there are some additional adventure ideas to use with the inn as a base of operations, too. For $4.95, this is a no-brainer.

You can get the book here.
