Armies of the Iron League Part Four: Sunndi

The Triumph! army lists continue; this time we have the indominatable Sunndi. Sunndi is an interesting case, because here we have regular human troops, gnomes, dwarves, and elves, as well as human woodsmen.

According to Dragon 57, these are the proportions of the Sunndian army as of CY 579 or so (not counting the dwarves, hillmen, and gnomes guarding the border against Medegia):

4 elf / 1 woodsman / 1.5 light horse / 4 infantry / 1 dwarf / 1 halfling / 1 gnome / 6 militia

This actually gives us an interesting situation, and an opportunity to use the allies and optional troops that we see in the Meshwesh army lists, as the demihumans are mostly described as being semi-independent.

Let’s translate these into Triumph! troop types. Elves are skirmishers (but will, like all the demihuman troops, have a battle card that gives them a bit of added color), woodsmen would be archers (with a battle card giving them a bonus when attacking from forest), light horse is bad horse (as we did with Idee), Greyhawk Wars gives Idee light infantry, so it makes sense to use light foot for the infantry, dwarves are elite foot, halflings are usually slingers and the like so skirmishers makes sense, gnomes are… umm… hmm. The sources don’t really give any details on what they are, so I’m going to fall back on the trusty Monster Manual, which tells us that gnomes are 40% armed with club and spear, so I’m going to go with light spear. Finally, the militia are skirmishers because of their weapons, with the hillmen having the added benefit of the hillmen battle card. To differentiate between them, the hillmen figures will be slingers, while the interior figures will be crossbowmen.
