Today we have a pair of adventures by Vitor Morelli.
The first is The Cursed Peaks of Corask – A Level 3 Dark Fantasy Adventure in Greyhawk. This cold-themed adventure is a 71 page pdf and costs $3.00. Unfortunately, the pages are small, the text is large, and the margins are huge, so that’s a slightly misleading statistic. But for me the real problem is the lack of any real connection to the Greyhawk setting. Are the Corask Mountains the same as the Corusk Mountains? There’s no telling, and no explanation for the name change if so, because the whole point of publishing on DMs Guild is that you can use the actual Greyhawk names. There’s also no clue where the village of Velmora is, and this is exacerbated by the lack of any maps in the module. Istus gets name-checked (not a Suel god, which I would have expected if the adventure took place in the Corusk Mountains), but that’s about it. Finally there are some monster stat blocks, new magic items, and pre-generated PCs.
Next we have Beneath de (sic) Abyssal Veil – A Level 5 Dark Fantasy Adventure in Greyhawk. This one is mostly an underwater adventure, clocking in at 63 pages, much larger and fuller than the previous adventure, but unfortunately suffers from the same problem. There’s next to nothing in the way of engagement with the setting; this is a generic adventure that happens to have “Greyhawk” in the name. Where is the village of Velath’s Cove? We have no idea, and again the lack of any maps makes it impossible to give an informed answer (although at least this module does give zoomed-in maps of the village, but there are two of them and they are completely different).
On the whole, if you’re looking for an inexpensive 5E adventure you can drop into any campaign, these two adventures are fine. If you’re looking for something to heighten your immersion into the World of Greyhawk setting, you’ll probably be better off looking elsewhere.
